I Taste the Smell of Coffee

I taste the smell of coffee as I leave the plane.

Pacific air softly brushes my cheek.

Fighting the feeling, I am home again.

Luggage found, driving toward the city, sun peeking

Through the patchy, cloudy, gray skies.

Pacific air softly brushes my cheek.

Always leaving this place, asking why.

Memories flooding, walls building, then release

Through the patchy, cloudy, gray skies.

Salty wind blows off the Puget Sound

My toes wriggling in the warm, dry sand.

Memories flooding, walls building, then release.

Across the bay the Olympic range rises,

Climbing mountains, overlooking valleys of lush green trees.

My toes wriggling in the warm, dry sand.

    Sailing through rippling, jagged waves—tease

Climbing mountains, overlooking valleys of lush green trees.

I taste the smell of coffee as I leave the plane.

Fighting the feeling, but I am home again.
